Charlotte Oktoberfest 2008

The Carolina BrewMasters, Charlotte's non-profit homebrew club, proudly announces the 10th annual Charlotte Oktoberfest Beer Festival will be held Saturday, September 27, 2008. This year, we will be back at Memorial Stadium which offers a spectacular view of Uptown Charlotte. More than 350 breweries will be represented locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally.

In 1999, Charlotte Oktoberfest was launched to help expose the Southeastern craft brewing community to a wider audience. What started out as a very small event(200 people) has grown to over 6,000 people in 2007.

Major benefactors of this event are our local charities. Last year we gave $50,000 to 3 local charities: National M.S. Society, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and A Child's Place. This year's charities have yet to be determined, but it is our goal to keep all money in the local community.

Please visit our website www.charlotteoktoberfest.com for additional information as well as volunteer opportunities. Tickets are not yet on sale, however, all sales will be processed online. Be sure to get your tickets early as it will sell out once again.

GO MODERN GO FAB

There is a fun “Modern Home Tour” Sunday May 18th from 2-5pm. Ten homes listed by five different firms will be open. There will be maps and info at each of the participating homes. The general areas are Myers Park, Eastover, Cotswold, Foxcroft and surrounding neighborhoods. The homes range from the low $400,000’s to well over $1,000,000. Two are new construction, but the others are furnished re-sales. You will find that there are very neat contemporary homes tucked into established traditional neighborhoods. This is a great opportunity to check out some very unique properties. And it’s a good example of Realtors co-operating & thinking outside of the box to offer a creative way to tour these homes. 208 Middleton in Eastover is one of those homes open. It’s listed by Jane Hunter w Dickens Mitchener. Look for the MODERN TOUR lime green signs. www.charlottemoderntour.com

Midwood Maynia

Each year, the Plaza Midwood neighborhood hosts Midwood Maynia, a celebration of the coming of spring and a reason to get outside and enjoy your neighbors and make new friends. It falls on the first weekend in May, with activities on Friday and Saturday.

A big draw is the Home and Garden Tour. It begins Friday night, with a candlelight tour from 6-8. Tickets can be purchased for $12 in advance, or for $15 Friday at the Kilgo Church on Belvedere between 5:30 and 7:30. The tour continues from 10-4 on Saturday. It is a great chance to get to see some of the neighborhood's most impressive and interesting homes, ranging from a 1930's Bungalow on Thomas Avenue to a new construction "Craftsman-Contemporary Hybrid" on Tippah Park Court. You can also usually find a lot of Open Houses running at the same time, so it's a good time to take a peek at some Midwood listings if you are considering making this fun and funky neighborhood your new home! Here is a great home that just hit the market: Take a Tour

The fun and festivities start early Saturday morning with the Midwood Miles 5K at 8:30, which begins at Midwood Park. Entry fees are $15, and you can register the day of the race. There is also a Children's Fun Run for kids 12 and under at 9:15. At 10:00, a Maynia favorite, the Pet Parade begins at the Kilgo Church on Belvedere. Pets of all shapes and sized are welcomed and there is no registration fee. There will also be live music in Midwood Park from 12-7. For more info, visit the Midwood website http://www.plazamidwood.org/.
